  Allstate Northern Ireland provides a wide range of IT Services across the Allstate Family of companies and we are excited to be partnering with fellow group member Squaretrade,  in standing up a new team to support the company’s rapidly growing European growth strategy.

   

  Squaretrade specializes in extended warranty services for consumer electronics and appliances.   The EU Business is experiencing hockey-stick growth and has ambitious goals to be a $500 million business by the end of 2022. The business plans to grow aggressively in the Consumer Electronics category as well as the B2B segment of providing protection plans for small businesses. The Squaretrade Allstate NI Engineering team will play a critical role in supporting the EU business meet its growth targets and contribute to the delivery of key offerings that will facilitate the growth strategy.

  In this role as a Software Engineer Manager, you will manage at least 2 strong scrum teams of software engineers and quality engineers

   

  Responsibilities include (but are not limited to)

  Along with being a mentor and a driving force to your teams you will be partnering with Product Owners, other Software Engineering Managers and Architects to deliver on company initiatives.

  You will report to the Senior Director of Engineering, with whom you will partner on defining the technical vision and direction of each group. This is an exciting position that offers autonomy and teamwork, with opportunities for career development.

   

   

  Essential criteria – Candidates should clearly state on their application form how they meet each of the essential criteria as these will be assessed during shortlisting and only these deemed to meet all of the below criteria will move forward to the next stage.

  • 5+ years of development experience.
  • 1+ years of management experience with full time Software Engineers
  • Must have strong knowledge of Java, Spring Boot and microservices
  • A good understanding of web technologies, UI frameworks and event-driven
  • architectures
  • Good knowledge on tracking and setting goals to improve quality and efficiency

   

  Desirable Criteria – These criteria may be used where we have a high number of applicants

  • Familiarity with Docker and/or Kubernetes, Jenkins
  • Experience with relational databases
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with Linux and Mac systems
