Product Manager - Legal Technology Innovation

  • We are looking for a Product Manager - Legal Technology Innovation to join our highly-regarded team at Baker McKenzie, Belfast.

    Our Belfast Center tackles high-volume, large-scale projects including e-discovery, document review, M&A due diligence and legal research to enable our Firm to provide routine legal services to clients quickly and cost effectively.

    Rather than outsource this work, our Belfast Center has reshaped the way we serve clients across the globe and reaffirms our commitment to meeting our clients' evolving needs.

    The Product Manager, Legal Technology Innovation will assess the business and functional needs of Innovation initiatives, then research and evaluate available technology solutions; contribute to the development and delivery of a diverse Innovation project portfolio; coordinate cross-functional resources and to manage vendors to successfully and expediently deliver solutions to Baker McKenzie users and hand over to other Technology teams for full on-boarding after POC.

    Responsibilities

    • Work in close collaboration with legal and business professionals to identify business problems, then translate them into a solution using the latest technology available
    • Be an expert in the capabilities of the Firm's existing Legal Tech platforms, as well as the landscape of established and emerging Legal Tech products and services on the market
    • Work closely with the Senior Manager, Practice and Services Solutions to support Innovation initiatives. Lead the initial phase of IC sponsored technology solutions, work with Technology teams to ensure technical feasibility and alignment to the overall strategic roadmap
    • Contribute to gap analyses of existing portfolio solutions against current business requirements
    • Coordinate cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure successful solution selection, and on-boarding
    • Hand over solution to PKS Solutions Product Managers at appropriate time
    • Prepare and deliver professional communications to various levels within the organisation
    • Work with the Senior Manager, Practice and Services Solutions to manage and support the Legal Tech Start Up programme
    • Own, maintain and update the Firm's Legal Tech landscape map and be responsible for managing the consultant vendors engaged in this
    • Provide support and input to innovation initiatives such as innovation bars
    • Integrate with Baker McKenzie and partnered incubators
    • Work closely with internal BD teams to provide technology innovation support for client engagements

    Experience Required

    • Bachelor's degree, law degree preferable
    • Appropriate relevant work experience in a professional environment
    • Experience in successful product implementations and ongoing enhancements
    • Experience working in a legal environment preferred, but not mandatory
    • Knowledge of the practice of law; practice services in a law firm; IT and security best practices
    • Strong knowledge of Cloud, AI, Machine Learning and other related technologies
    • Strong awareness of and interest in Legal Technology marketplace trends
    • Fluent written and spoken English
    • Leadership skills - ability to direct the action of others, to facilitate meetings, and to report status in a clear and concise manner
    • Communication skills - demonstrated ability to communicate professionally in business language, in both oral and written formats (English)
    • Ability to build and maintain trusted relationships and open two way communication
    • Ability to work independently and as a cohesive member of a team
    • Strong project management skills and ability to effectively manage multiple tasks concurrently
    • Ability to learn new skills in a short period of time and to move through a variety of tasks requiring different approaches, knowledge and expertise, with agility of mind and capacity for analysis and synthesis
