Network Engineer

    The post holder will work in the Network Group within Infrastructure. They will support the University’s teaching, learning, research and administration activities through the development and support of its data communication network.

    Main duties will include-

    • Working as part of a team to identify, develop and implement computer and network systems and solutions to provide an integrated range of high quality services in support of the University’s administrative, research, learning and teaching objectives.
    • Using appropriate technologies and applications to ensure the continuity, performance and security of the University’s business functions running over the services.
    • Administering central network and related computer systems for the University.
    • Leading/participating in project teams engaged in network development work.
    • Participating in collaborative projects with other Groups and Divisions.
    • Supporting the establishment and development of a high quality enterprise infrastructure.

    Please note that there will be occasional work in the evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the University.

    The successful candidate will have:

    • Degree and three years’ relevant experience in computer networking
    • 3-years relevant experience to include:

    -  Understanding and application of modern network technologies, TCP/IP router and switch management, IEEE 802_3x, transmission technologies, Internet security solutions.

    -  Experience of network integration, trouble-shooting and protocol analysis.

    -  Experience of UNIX/LINUX system administration.

    -  Experience in VOIP and WiFi technologies

    • Experience of working with network management systems.
    • Experience in managing an IP address management system

    Salary scale:   £33,199 - £39,610 per annum (potential to progress to £43,266 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution)
